BACKGROUND

Workstead was founded in 2009 in Brooklyn, NY. Over a decade later, they are internationally recognized and sought after for their meticulous and disciplined process that considers both client and community. The studio creates timeless designs for hotels, restaurants, and residences, carefully striking a balance between beauty and necessity. With longevity as its foundation, the studio is responsible for the atmosphere of such iconic getaways as The Dewberry Charleston, Rivertown Lodge, and The Wythe Hotel. Over the years I have worked for Workstead in varying capacities. A selection of visual work is represented here.

Workstead meticulously restored a grand, three-story home in Charleston and needed invitations for its debut.

Workstead meticulously restored a grand, three-story home in Charleston and needed invitations for its debut.

The grandeur of the Southern home needed to be reflected in the invitation for its debut. Originally built in 1853, the property is one of four rowhouses on Charleston’s historic “Bee’s Row.” Workstead preserved and restored the original details of the home with updated conveniences, mixing historical and contemporary elements. Materials are luxurious, timeless, and selected with respect to its Southern history and context.

In 2019 Workstead launched its Bauhaus inspired lighting line, Archetype, a collection with very geometric typologies. Likewise, the card depicts a triangle with metallic letters to represent a minimal, geometric tree with golden ornaments.

Farrow & Ball’s studio green paint color along with an abundance of lush, green plants filling interior and outside spaces inspired a holiday foliage illustration. 2016 being an election year, the words, “Joy, peace, love” was chosen as a suitable message.

The Workstead Industrial Chandelier is an iconic product that received and continues to receive a lot of press and attention. Its clean minimalism inspired a card design with only the most essential elements of a snowman depicted.

A folk-lore inspired illustration depicts meaningful events in the couple’s relationship.

Stefanie and Robert, two partners at Workstead, have a very discerning taste level. They needed a wedding suite to match the sophistication of their timeless yet modern aesthetic with a design story that reflected them as a couple. I created a subtle blind-debossed folk-lore inspired illustration surrounding custom-created type, while a select few details in red signify Stefanie’s Swiss heritage.

TESTIMONIAL FROM WORKSTEAD

TESTIMONIAL FROM WORKSTEAD TO COME

Elizabeth and I have been friends and collaborators for many decades. Throughout the years she has developed an incredible wealth of knowledge and has been able to apply that to the projects she has taken on for us both internally and for clients. Because of our history an intuitive process developed where little guidance was needed from our end for her to take on and successfully complete projects.

WORKSTEAD has a very distinct aesthetic voice and what we have always found so incredibly helpful is that Elizabeth has proven time and time again that she can design with this in mind. Our projects with her require minimal input and result in beautiful and thoughtful completed works. She seamlessly takes projects from concept to execution managing every step of the way and goes above and beyond when necessary. I trust her completely and know whenever she is involved I will stand behind the end result with pride.
