PROJECT BACKGROUND
Aiden & Anais was founded by an Australian native who introduced the first muslin swaddle blanket to the United States in 2006. With their versatility, quality, and modern aesthetic, the blankets quickly resonated with American parents. The company now offers a full range of multi-purpose swaddles, bibs, sleeping bags, nursery bedding, and muslin clothing. Working with Beardwood & Co., I helped develop concepts and designs to extend their existing branding into a new product category, diapers & wipes.

Performance cues
We explored typographic descriptions and icons to communicate the key benefits a mom wants in diapers and wipes, as well as an own-able symbol to convey a performance promise.
The products need to communicate new category cues for the brand.

Age identifiers & Baby photography
We looked at large colored numerical identifiers as well as using the photography of babies themselves to help depict age, whether showing the whole body, the face, or one or more babies.
The design needs to stand off the shelf and be recognizable as Aden + Anais.

Color palette & Brand elements
We explored different ratios of existing brand colors and the introduction of new colors, while also exploring existing brand elements and how to expand upon them. We created solutions for showing the diaper patterns, from graphical explorations to showing diaper patterns on the babies.

SOLUTION
The emotional impact and sophistication of a close-in baby’s face on the diaper packaging differentiates itself on the shelf and appeals to moms.
Editorial style photography
To differentiate packaging on the shelf and to keep a level of sophistication, photography focuses on the emotional expression of a child’s face.
Recognizable brand elements
The instantly recognizable blue-green half-circle becomes a place holder for type, while a tab for more information sits above diaper patterns. A large dark blue colored number stands out to signify diaper sizes.
